How to Warm Up an EV in Winter (Fastest)
Precondition while plugged in to warm both cabin and battery from wall power — it's faster and costs no range. Remote start warms the cabin but not always the battery.

Remote start warms the cabin only. True preconditioning warms the cabin AND the battery — and the battery is what determines your range and charging speed on a cold day.
When you're plugged in, preconditioning draws from the wall, so the warm-up costs zero range.
The fastest warm-up
Plug in, then schedule a departure 20–45 minutes before you leave. The car warms the cabin and battery on wall power. For a fast-charge stop, navigate to the charger so the battery preconditions en route.
How to do it by brand
Tesla: scheduled departure in the app, or Navigate to a Supercharger to auto-precondition. Hyundai/Kia: enable 'Battery Preconditioning' in settings, then set a DC charger as the nav destination. Ford, Rivian, Volvo, BMW, Polestar, VW, Audi: use the app or a scheduled departure while plugged in.
