About FrostRange
FrostRange exists to answer one question precisely: how much range does an electric vehicle actually lose in the cold? We publish model-by-model winter range estimates for the coldest climates — the northern US, Canada, and the Nordics — along with the preconditioning and charging tactics that recover lost miles.
Our methodology
Every page starts from the official EPA or WLTP range at 20°C, then applies reference loss bands derived from public third-party research — including Recurrent's finding that EVs retain roughly 80% of range in freezing conditions on average, and AAA's cold-weather testing. We adjust for cabin-heating type (heat pump vs. resistive) and preconditioning.
A promise about accuracy
We never present a modeled winter figure as a measured fact. Every estimate is labeled as such, and we cite the manufacturer, EPA/WLTP, or third-party tests wherever a verified number exists. When we don't have a verified figure, we say so and ask you to confirm with the manufacturer.
